Born in 225 AD, Lawrence lived during the Church’s earliest years and endured intense persecution under Emperor Valerian. While few details remain about his life, his legacy of holiness and courage continues to inspire the faithful.
As Prefect of Rome and trusted deacon under Pope Sixtus II, Lawrence is remembered for boldly defending the Church and proclaiming that the true treasures of the Church were the poor and suffering. He was martyred in 258 AD, just days after Sixtus II’s execution, becoming a model of steadfast devotion to Christ.
His feast day is celebrated on August 10, and he is venerated as the patron saint of school children, the poor, and comedians. This beautifully illustrated storybook introduces young readers to a powerful example of holiness, while offering adults the joy of sharing a life rooted in faith and service.

A Story of Saint Lawrence
These are wonderful books for children. They tell the lives of the saints in a short & simple way. Martyrs deaths are described but it is muted. The pictures are great. The only complaint I have is the pictures are out of order. For example, a picture that should be on page 10 will be on page 14. It wasn’t a problem for me as an adult but it’ll be annoying when I read it to my niece & nephew.
