Excellent read for young and old alike.
When I picked this up I originally thought it was just a different cover of the volume “The Life of Little Nellie of Holy God: The Little Violet of the Blessed Sacrament (1903-1908)”. Because they are linked on Amazon. I was mistaken. This volume is about a third of the length of the other, and is clearly written and illustrated for children. However, that being said, t was a wonderful read. The description of this volume states: “Little Nellie was not yet four and a half when God took her to Heaven; but she had already made her First Holy Communion. Before she died, she had received Our Lord 32 times. She knew that in Holy Communion she was receiving God; she always called Him "Holy God." When the Holy Father, Pope St. Pius X, heard about Little Nellie, he cried: "There! That is the sign for which I was waiting." Then the Holy Father said that children could receive Holy Communion when they were little, rather than waiting till age 12. Little Nellie is called the Little Violet of the Blessed Sacrament. Perfect to teach children love and reverence for Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist!” The eBook edition also includes the complete text of: Confession: Its Fruitful Practice from The Benedictine Convent of Clyde. The online description of this book states: “Little Nellie is called the Little Violet of the Blessed Sacrament. Little Nellie was not yet four and a half when God took her to Heaven; but she had already made her First Holy Communion. This marvelous true story is perfect to teach children love and reverence for Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist!” I highlighted a few passages while reading this volume, some of them are: “Nellie’s mother often brought her down to the seashore. She sat on the golden sand to make big sand castles for Nellie. There she talked to her about God and told her all sorts of wonderful things about Him. Nellie learned to say the Rosary with her mother.” “When only two, Nellie would toddle off to Mass with her soldier-father. All along the way she prattled about Holy God. That was the only way she ever spoke of God. Nobody knows where she learned to call Him that. “Nellie was glad that her Mama was in Heaven with Holy God and Blessed Mother Mary and the Angels, but she was lonesome too. Nellie’s back hurt her, but she could not explain this, so she just cried.” “Nellie received Holy God many times after that first Communion. Every time, that beautiful light shone from her face. Many people saw this heavenly light glowing after Holy Communion.” “Nellie was four years and five months old. She had received Holy Communion thirty-two times. She belonged to Our Lady’s Sodality and the Apostleship of Prayer. She had been anointed. She had received five of the Seven Sacraments. She was really nearing Holy God; in fact, she was ready to fly into His arms.” “PRAYER O JESUS, Divine Friend of little children, we thank Thee for the signal graces Thou didst confer upon Thy holy servant, Little Nellie, by inspiring her with such great devotion to Thy Sacred Passion and such ardent love of Thy Blessed Eucharist. Grant, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the fulfillment of Thy designs regarding Thy loving little servant, for Thy greater glory and for the sanctification of souls. We adore Thee, O Jesus, ever present in the Blessed Sacrament; we pray that Thy Sacred Presence may be honored daily more and more; that the little ones, whom Thou desirest to come to Thee, may frequently approach Thy Holy Table. O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, all praise and all thanksgiving be every moment Thine.” I really appreciate the prayer that the volume concluded with. The book contains 25 illustrations, that remind me a lot of the Little Golden Books, that were really popular when I was young and even when my kids were. The book give a great summary of the short life of little Nellie, and of her deep devotion to God and especially the Blessed Sacrament. It was a great read. And one I can easily recommend.

Very enlightening book. Every Catholic or non catholic, for that matter, should read this book. It just may save your soul from hell. I am waiting the book to be on the $5.00 list again. Have ordered many Dogma of Hell books and have given many away.

Beautifully written
This lovely children’s book will delight both children and adults. I bought several copies and think our Catholic Elementary school will want to have this beautifully illustrated book. book in their library.
