Poetry is meant for everyone.
For you. For your child. But where to start?
Poems Every Child Should Know is here to help.
Selected and accompanied by commentary from bestselling author and literature professor Joseph Pearce, this exciting collection of verse contains classic poems that every child should know to begin a poetic ascent towards God. Not only that, but these poems are chosen so as to help all "become as little children," and are ones everyone should know, regardless of age. These timeless treasures form a foundation upon which to build poetic knowledge and to see the world through the eyes of a poet, the way God intended it.
Culled from the rich history of English poetry, these gems of the English language’s inheritance are meant to enrich our children’s cultural treasure chest. Verse, like virtue, is often most beautiful when it is most simple. A good beginning makes a good end all the more likely, so immersing children in beautiful words—words which so powerfully and continually shape our world, our thoughts, our prayers—and teaching them to take a minute and stop to observe a beautiful sentence is of the utmost importance. Appreciating beauty in even the most ordinary of life’s moments is a lesson that will prepare their minds to receive Truth, Beauty, and Goodness Himself.
Throughout the book, readers will find “things to think about,” inviting them to engage more deeply with individual poems. These should be seen as an invitation to an adventure into unknown territory, an opportunity to go further up and further in. Be fearless, be adventurous, and enjoy this journey into the realm of the good, the true, and the beautiful of our English language.

Fun to read aloud
Morality poems from Hilaire Belloc include titles like “Rebecca, Who slammed Doors for Fun and Perished Miserably” and “Jim, Who ran away from his Nurse, and was eaten by a lion.” “The Good Joan” by Lizette Woodworth Reese is wonderful (about Joan of Arc). My 9 month old enjoys listening to me read page after page filled with rhyme and meter (and playing with the ribbon bookmark). Great fun.

A little disappointing
It is a beautiful book. The poems in it are very nice. The problem I had was only the 1st part of the book has poems for young people. I have always loved poems even as a child. The last part of the book contains poems that are much too long for any young person to enjoy, unless you are talking about 20 year old young people. I suppose poetry is like all art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

"Poems Every Child Should Know"
This is a beautiful, high-quality edition. I got it for my grandsons, ages 10 and 3. I enjoyed reading poems I learned as a child in grade school, and it was great to read the entire versions of many others. A lot of them I had just heard snippets of ("Casey at the Bat", for example). This is a great collection and a wonderful introduction to poetry for any age.

A Delightful Treasury!
Beautifully bound and perfect for gift-giving! This volume contains a varied and colorful assortment of classic poetry which can serve either as an introduction or a well-rounded collection for young readers. I love the easy-to-read typeface and durable binding. There were many poems that were new to me and this was an added delight. Our family will treasure this always!

Beautiful Book for Your Home Library
This is a beautiful book! It's been in my homeschool bag (like our morning basket) for awhile now. My kids enjoy the poetry, and I love knowing that it's a collection of poems I can trust to be enriching and edifying for my family. It's nice to hold, and lovely to read. Thank you to TAN and Joseph Pearce for compiling this beautiful collection!

Beautiful!
This book is such a beautiful addition to our home! My young children have never shown interest in poetry, especially memorizing it, but they read this everyday on their own and are so excited to tell me their new poems. I have learned a few myself!

It was a walk down memory lane for me.y grandkids loved hearing and reciting them with me. However over half the blood is hard to understand for this 73 year old adult. Just sayin
