“Since the religious revolution of the sixteenth century, to no man has the Catholic Church in Scotland been so much indebted as to Bishop Hay. He is pre-eminently her bishop of the last three hundred years.”
- Bishop John Strain, Archbishop of the Metropolitan see of St. Andrews and Edinburgh, 1810–1883
Enemies of Salvation complements TAN’s already vast catalog of timeless Catholic books that have been updated and now reprinted for your spiritual growth. Besides producing traditional Catholic content from living authors, TAN Books looks to the saints and spiritual masters of the past to guide us in the present and into the future to our true home, Heaven.
Authored by renowned Scottish archbishop George Hay (1729–1811), this work, pulled from Bishop Hay’s The Devout Christian, examines our three chief enemies—the flesh, the world, and the devil—and how they conspire together to threaten our salvation. In this succinct text, Bishop Hay provides a field map to knowing your enemies and learning how to defeat them.

Excellent Reading and Reference
Very in depth regarding the many enemies we face on a daily basis and how to be aware of them and vigilant about what we see, hear, do and who we spend time with. Very eye opening. Loaded with Bible passage references as well!

Great!!! Highly recommend.
This book is great! It’s a small book, maybe 68 or 69 pages. I read it in two days. I immediately recommended it to my friend and she’s enjoying it as well. It’s not that we don’t know some of these things but this book is an excellent reminder in a shortened form. It’s also amazing to see, again, how almost three hundred years ago the times look the same. You’d truly think he wrote those words for todays time. I highly recommend this book.

Bookshelf Essential!
It never ceases to amaze me how sentiment and advice from ages past reverberates through time and rings relevant in the present day. The same thoughts we entertain today are found within writings that are hundreds of years old (far more eloquently, of course). This would make an excellent selection for your local book club. The length of the chapters and the book itself are evenly paced and manageable even in a busy lifestyle. For a collection of works on the beauty of and desperate need for salvation, and the generosity of our most loving Savior, this would be an excellent start.
