Overview
Many people have been taught that the Catholic Church and science are enemies. Popular media, textbooks, and modern myths often portray the Church as a force of superstition standing against reason, discovery, and progress. But the truth is far different.
In Seven Myths about the Catholic Church and Science, Dr. Benjamin Wiker exposes the most common misunderstandings about the relationship between Catholic faith and scientific inquiry. Rather than being an enemy of science, the Church has long been one of its great friends, patrons, and protectors, encouraging the study of creation as a way of discovering the wisdom of the Creator.
This course explores major topics such as the so-called war between religion and science, the scientific achievements of the Middle Ages, Copernicus and Galileo, evolution, the Big Bang, the origin of human life, and speculation about alien life. With clarity and conviction, Dr. Wiker helps students understand how authentic science and Catholic truth work together in the search for reality.
