The one and only Roman Catholic Bible to read and contemplate.
This is the only Bible that I would trust. It was written by God and compiled by Holy Mother Church. Highly Recommended Reading!

I truly missed the older translation of the beginning of the Gospel of John, so I purchased this beautiful Bible and love the translations throughout.

Print and print darkness
Print not as large as expected. Darkness of print not bold enough.

Print size
Beautiful Bible but I would not consider it “large print”. My large print RSV Ignatious Bible is at 14 points and very comfortable for early morning readings. I’m disappointed that this Bible’s print is smaller. If the publisher would increase the print by a point or two and give it a real leather cover it would give this DR version it’s due respect. Otherwise, It’s nicely bound scripture.

Beautiful and Practical
I’ve always wanted a Douay-Rheims Bible, but never felt so as to acquire until this one. With its set of features, especially the flexible and intricately embossed leatherette cover, this Bible is beautiful for throning at home or giving as a special gift. More importantly, it’s surprisingly nimble so as to actually use regularly as well! Not too large nor too heavy. The font (to me) isn’t very large; I think for it being a Douay-Rheims, it’s large print. Nonetheless, the typeface is traditional, very clean-looking and easy on the eyes to read. Do know this is bound in “Bible paper”, but of a seemingly resilient quality. Delicate enough to use with reverence, no so delicate that it’s a discouragement to use for Lectio Divina. Full-color illustrations and maps are in the back; three gold page ribbons attached to the elegantly sculpted spine. For aging eyes of all ages, this Bible is not to be missed!

1899 version still has the Psalms based on the Old Latin, pre Vulgate text from the Septuagint
1899 version still has the Psalms based on the Old Latin, pre Vulgate text from the Septuagint. This version also translates Galations 2:16 "justified but... the faith of Christ." That is a proper translation of the Greek according to Orthodox scholars.
