Children should not just read about history; they should live it. In The Story of Civilization (35 lessons), the ancient stories that have shaped humanity come alive like never before. Author Phillip Campbell uses his historical expertise and storytelling ability together in tandem to present the content in a fresh and thrilling way.

The Story of Civilization reflects a new emphasis in presenting the history of the world as a thrilling and compelling narrative. Within each chapter, children will encounter short stories that place them directly in the shoes of historical figures, both famous and ordinary, as they live through legendary battles and invasions, philosophical debates, the construction of architectural wonders, the discovery of new inventions and sciences, and the exploration of the world.

Volume I: The Ancient World, begins the journey, covering the time periods from the dawn of history and the early nomads to the conversion of Emperor Constantine. Children will learn what life was like in the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Persia, Greece, Rome, and more, as well as learn the Old Testament stories of the Israelites and the coming of Christ.

Dramatized Audio Book

Talented voice actor and audiobook producer Kevin Gallagher returns to bring children the history of the world in this riveting reading of The Story of Civilization Volume 1: The Ancient World. This follows his immensely popular reading of TAN’s The Story of the Bible. Your children will be transported back in time through the sound effects, music, and voice acting that complement the reading of the text.

Whether looking for entertainment on a long road trip, enhancing the experience with the text, or catering to the needs of a child with a reading disability, this audio dramatization will open up a new world of adventure for kids of all ages.

The Story of Civilization, Volume 1

Posted by Ruth Charlesworth, MRE, D.Min on Aug 5th 2023

In a world of visualization it can be a refreshing experience for students to just listen and use their imagination. It my plan for students (age 9 & 10) who are studying the Old Testament to have 15 min. each class of the Story of Civilization Volume 1 as part of their class plan. After reviewing Volume 1, I think it will fit nicely in the class plan. As Director of Religious Education for two parishes I am always looking for good supplements to the basic text and I have found one.

    Much needed and brilliantly produced

We;ve been waiting for this resource forever. Imagine -- history taught from a Catholic perspective that you can pop into your car;s CD player and listen to for hours. It never gets tedious and even though we have six kids, they are completely silent when the Story of Civilization is playing. They;ve listened to this one so many times now that they repeat passages from it from memory. The stories interspersed throughout are excellent and help young listeners retain important facts, events and dates. If you;re not using the Story of Civilization for your kids (ages 6 to 16), you;re missing out!

I was going to get the CDs then remembered... children + CDs = scratched and broken. lol The digital copy is exactly what we need. We are finishing up the rest of book one and will move on to book two this year. I highly recommend this for parents who want to teach their children in a different way, not just facts in a textbook. This is a Living Book that puts you in the time!

I ordered The Story of Civilization: The Ancient World (dramatized audiobook) because my children enjoy listening to audiobooks, and I thought this would be a fun way to learn history. We have really enjoyed listening to it, and plan to order others in the series. I think this series of audiobooks will be a wonderful supplement to help my children better understand history in a fun, exciting way.

    Having listened more than once...

Our family loves this audiobook set! It is the one form of entertainment that all my kids (ages 5, 7, 9) can agree on to listen to in the car, and I'm learning historical facts that I never learned (or completely forgot) when I was in school. It's the perfect mixture of factual information, historical dramatization, music, and sound effects. Valuable tool for homeschool or for enriching entertainment!
